There is a very simple reason as to why I haven't and wont have a new one for a while.

My graphics card is old and dying. Until I get funds to replace it I am going to have to put off the daily sculpts indefinitely. Right now I am experiencing frequent crashing and errors. Fortunately its only in Mudbox, meanwhile Maya is still running strong. So I will start showing the work on a project I have been planning. I have an old ATI 4670 that I purchased about 5 years ago. Its taken a beating between gaming, 3D rendering and video encoding. Looks like its going down for the count. Hopefully I can replace it soon.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01110429031107701216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876095786865255265.post-29711294249896409042013-04-17T14:15:00.003-04:002013-04-17T14:15:51.602-04:00Daily Sculpt 4: HammerThe "Game of Thrones" Sculpt was put on hold. I am getting reference images for the iron throne and testing out the mechanics on how to go about it. So instead I did this Hammer. Its nothing too complex but I like the way it came out.
Was teaching a friend today and while I was helping him with Mata/ Mudbox, I was fooling around. Obviously a more directed sculpt. This is from the same base model as my last frankenstein. This is kinda a more future solider guy, def halo like aesthetics. Tomorrow, I will do a Game of Thrones inspired sculpt.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01110429031107701216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876095786865255265.post-87648261239188874502013-04-13T00:40:00.002-04:002013-04-13T00:40:25.776-04:00Daily Sculpt 3: TutorialsSo for the past 2 days Ive been experimenting on the same model. I wanted to learn some techniques and I surely have. I wanted to share the Frankenstein monster that came from these 2 tutorials.

I could call this 3 and 4 but I will just call this 3 and I will attempt to do a more directed and original sculpt this weekend. One that has ore hours put into it and should come off quite polished.
When you need to achieve a certain look and effect in your scene, sometimes the best thing to do is just sculpt it out so you can accurately achieve what you want. The nice thing about sculpting is that you can move around geometry and having that tangible object allows you to create something unique.

I decided that I would work on something simple like a rock wall. I guess this could also work for a rock floor if the depth was evened out a bit.

This is the high poly sculpt. I baked out the normals and the diffuse/specular. I will do a UDK render soon to see how things look.
I don't tend to use programs like mudox and zbrush often so I dont knwo what I can turn out. I decided that I would do a sculpt a day for 30 weekdays.

These will be speed sculpts and most will be quick and dirty. I want to discover some techniques and ways to create different detail. I feel if I can sculpt well, then I can achieve a better idea of how to come about base models and overall higher quality models.

To start this journey I am doing my interpretation of batman beyond from a headshot. This took around 2-3 hours. I hope as I start sculpting more, things will become second nature and the speed will increase for these sculpts.
I am currently working on the cannon for the Trex Robot. I am refrencing styles from various artists to achieve a specific look. I will bake out normals for a low poly mesh after I finish. At the moment I am really pleased at how the cannon is turning out.

After the Cannon is done. I will begin on the Trex Robot. I also started to a thread on Polycount. Time to put in hard work and see this through.

Major game assests is something im always working torward to improve my ability in. So I decided to challenge myself and do something for the new Polycount contest-- Here

This is my quickly drawn concept I plan to work torwards.

I wanna create a enemy cyber dinosaur and then my own original concept of a ship. Show the ship escaping from the trex with some cool particle effects.

So this is a personal project to continue improving my skills. I wanna make a stylish gauntlet and use realistic shaders. This is kinda where im at now. I am going to model a hand for this too. I started blocking one out and I plan to do some sculpt to improve the believeablity.

I am also going to show another project that is well beyond my comfort zone that I am about to start. It should round out my ability to make high quality game assets.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01110429031107701216noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-876095786865255265.post-29779652070863890272013-03-01T00:54:00.001-05:002013-03-01T00:54:27.831-05:00Freedom, Ambition, and DeterminationI had the great pleasure of having THE college experience. Now I only say that cause I feel like many people go and don't get that. I learned far more than the classrooms, teachers, and studying ever taught me and the more and more I think about it, I have changed for the better. I walked into college with excitement and extreme hesitation where I wanted to step. What should I do, how hard should I work, what friends do i make, should I indulge myself in every experience now that I am free from my parents. I was yanked loose by a dorm floor of legendary proportions.

I felt peer pressure about doing every little thing something I chose to do and some I did not, but the ending result was just what I needed. I was loose and engaging of all of the things presented to me. I no longer hesitated in doing or not doing something and became stalwart in my actions. This was important foe the next 4 years of my life. I was able to get what I believed to be the college experience because I was open to everything around me at such a crazy diverse school. I learned things that I can apply beyond college and put into my work. I am very grateful for that.

Now that I have finished my college career I am ready to push my art to the limits. Ill start by posting my thesis project from my last quarter at rit. Even though this is the last thing I have done, I know I am capable of far more. I see that the quality is all over the place and I know what I could have done to improve.
